Faculty promotions announced

(THOUSAND OAKS, CA – March 2008) – The Board of Regents of California Lutheran University has approved the following promotions in rank and tenure for faculty, effective August 2008.

Joan Griffin, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, was granted tenure. Griffin received her bachelor’s from Washington University (St. Louis, Mo.) and her master’s and doctorate from Harvard University.

Guy Erwin, Ph.D., (Religion) and Silva Karayan, Ph.D., (Education) advanced to the rank of full professor. Erwin, who serves as Gerhard and Olga J. Belgum Professor of Lutheran Confessional Theology, received his bachelor’s from Harvard College, his master’s from Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and his doctorate from Yale University. Karayan received her bachelor’s from American University of Beirut, and her master’s and doctorate from University of California Santa Barbara.

Jim Bond, Ph.D. (English), Deborah Erickson, Ed.D., Michael McCambridge, Ed.D., (Education) and Craig Reinhart, Ph.D., (Computer Science) were granted tenure and advanced to the rank of associate professor. Bond received his bachelor’s from Ball State University, and his master’s and doctorate from Indiana University. Erickson received her bachelor’s from Pacific Lutheran University, her master’s from Cal State San Bernardino, and her doctorate from University of the Pacific. McCambridge received his bachelor’s from Ohio University, his master’s from Pepperdine University and his doctorate from University of San Francisco. Reinhart received his bachelor’s from Cal State Northridge and his master’s and doctorate from University of Southern California.

Three professors were promoted to the rank of associate professor. Thomas Langley, Ph.D., (Mathematics) received his bachelor’s from Rice University, master’s degrees from University of Southern California and San Diego State University, and his doctorate from University of California, San Diego. Mark Spraggins, Ph.D., (Music) received his bachelor’s from Auburn University, his master’s at Butler University, and his doctorate at University of Southern California. Russell Stockard, Ph.D., (Communication) received his bachelor’s from Harvard College, master’s degrees from Harvard University and University of California Los Angeles, and his doctorate from Stanford University.
