CLU’s School of Business offers Certificate Program in Marketing & Fundraising for Nonprofit Organizations

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. –– Registration has begun for a new certificate course titled Marketing and Fundraising for Nonprofit Organizations, offered through California Lutheran University’s School of Business, and held on the university’s Thousand Oaks main campus starting January 2005. The program, designed to provide hands–on training for fundraising and marketing professionals in nonprofit and public sector organizations, is endorsed by the Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

Edward N. Lewis, vice president of development for Alliance for the Arts, the fundraising arm of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, has been selected as the lead instructor and program coordinator of the certificate course. “Ed is an accomplished marketing, communications and fundraising professional, and we are delighted to have his expertise as we launch this certificate course,” said Charles Maxey, Ph.D., Dean of CLU’s School of Business.

The certificate program is comprised of six modules, each presented in a one–day seminar format. Students can register for any or all of the modules; however, only students completing all six modules will be awarded the certificate recognizing them as a Specialist in Marketing and Fundraising for Nonprofit Organizations.

All modules will be held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dates and topics are:

Sat., Jan. 22, Module I– Marketing and Communications
Sat., Feb. 5, Module II– Annual Giving, Membership Clubs and Corporate Giving
Sat., Feb, 19, Module III– Special Event Marketing
Sat., March 5, Module IV– Major Gifts and Capital Campaigns
Sat., March 19, Module V– Corporate and Foundation Grant Solicitation
Sat., April 2, Module VI– Planned Giving Fundamentals

“With the ever–increasing competition for philanthropic dollars, professional fundraising practitioners need to stay abreast of the most efficient marketing and fundraising techniques and strategies,” said Lewis.
The course curriculum utilizes Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) survey materials which are helpful to participants preparing for the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) examination.

The fee for enrolling in all six modules is $810, eligible for three continuing education units. Students may also enroll in individual modules for $150 per module.
