CLU Community Leaders Association Distributes Landmark Proceeds

Funds enhance a variety of academic programs for CLU students

THOUSAND OAKS, CA –– The CLU Community Leaders Association has allocated more than $70,000 –– the largest amount ever donated by the town and gown organization –– for academic programs at California Lutheran University.
Granted to 14 academic departments at the university with allocations ranging from less than $500 to $12,000, the funds were netted from the 2004 auction that was held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in October.

Academic departments receiving funding include Bioengineering, $12,000 for equipment; Music, $12,000 for restoration of a Steinway grand piano; Biology, $6,490 for a vibratome; Chemistry, $12,400 for lab equipment; Information Systems and Services, $8,500 for a computer projection system; Mathematics, $6,100 for laptops and a projection system. Other departments receiving grants include Art, French, Multimedia, Theatre Arts and the School of Education. Approximately $6,000 has been designated for endowed scholarships for incoming and current CLU students.

Founded in 1963, the Community Leaders Association was developed to stimulate the interest of the community in CLU athletic and cultural programs. Members are involved in a variety of activities, including social and academic programs and fundraising efforts. Since its founding, the organization has provided more than $1.5 million to enhance academic programs and facilities at the university. Among the programs sponsored by the Community Leaders Association annually are the Mathews Leadership Forum, the auction and the Dollars for Scholars golf tournament.
