New Dean Selected to Lead CLU’s School of Education

Terence Cannings, Ed.D., will become dean on July 1

(THOUSAND OAKS, CA – February 18, 2005) Terence R. Cannings, Ed.D., has been selected as Dean of the School of Education at California Lutheran University, announced President Luther S. Luedtke. His appointment will become effective July 1.

For the past three years, Cannings has served as Dean of the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Azusa Pacific University. Prior to that, he served for nine years as Associate Dean of Education at Pepperdine University.

A native of Australia, Cannings did his undergraduate work at the University of New England and earned his M.Ed. from the University of Sydney. He completed his doctoral degree at UCLA in 1980. He is the recipient of numerous awards and citations, including a 1994 Gold Disk Award for computer innovation work for educators in California, and has published widely on topics relating to public education, especially on the use of new media and online programs.

Cannings will be assisted in the leadership of the School of Education by Randall Lindsey, Ph.D., who has served for the past year as Interim Dean. Lindsey will assume new responsibilities as Director of the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program, and Julia Sieger, Ed.D., will continue as Assistant Dean for the School of Education.
