Kingsmen Shakespeare Company Receives Grant from Target Stores

The Kingsmen Shakespeare Company has announced it is the recipient of a $4,000 grant from Target Corporation to be used for its Shakespeare Educational Tour (SET) program.

The SET program, a joint project of the Kingsmen Shakespeare Company and the Thousand Oaks Arts Commission, began four years ago by bringing workshops and performances to Conejo Valley Unified School District elementary students in grades four, five and six. Two years ago, the program expanded to bring Shakespeare to even younger elementary school children. In preparation for the workshops, teachers teach their students about Shakespeare, his works and Elizabethan England. The workshops serve as a tool for teaching rhyme, symbolism and the universality of Shakespeare.

Target Corporation has a strong tradition of giving back to the communities where they do business and this year that giving will amount to $2 million a week. That commitment is reflected in Target Stores' grant–making program, which supports projects that promote the arts, education and family violence prevention.
