New CLU Sociology Professor Selected as ‘Professor of the Year’

Dr. Adina Nack, an assistant professor of sociology who just joined the faculty last September, was recognized with the Professor of the Year Award. Nack came to CLU from University of Maine where she taught and conducted researched for several years. Her areas of interest include medical sociology, deviance, qualitative/ethnographic methods, sex and gender, social inequality and social psychology. Featured in the 1999 MTV documentary on sexual health, Nack has played an important role in health education for young adults. NackĘs husband, Jose Marichal, is also a new faculty member and the director of CLU Irvine Diversity Grant program. They are expecting their first child this month!

Dereem McKinney of Simi Valley was selected by her classmates as Senior of the Year. McKinney, a liberal studies major who spent a semester studying in Australia, has been an active participant in student government and in athletics during her four years at CLU. A recent scholarship recipient, she plans to get her teaching credential and prepare for a career in education.

Gregory Freeland, Ph.D., was recognized with a Diversity Professor of the Year award for his leadership of the Committee on Multicultural Thought and for organizing activities that promote discussions of diversity on campus and throughout the community.
