Upward Bound Graduation Held at CLU

(THOUSAND OAKS, CA – May 2006) California Lutheran University's 2006 Upward Bound Senior Graduation Ceremony was held on May 14. This special graduation ceremony recognized the achievements of the 19 Upward Bound students and their families.

Upward Bound is a college preparation program for first–generation high school students from low–income families in Ventura County. The program provides various academic services such as tutoring, academic advisement, weekend classes, college tours, parent workshops, and a five–week summer residential component at CLU. Students participate in the program for three or four years while in high school in order to prepare for their post–secondary education.

This year, graduates of the Upward Bound program have been accepted to universities such as UC Berkeley, Santa Clara University and UCLA. Two of the graduating seniors have chosen to attend CLU in the fall.

Upward Bound is a highly successful program with 100 percent of program participants graduating from high school and enrolling in a program of post–secondary education. At least 85 percent of Upward Bound alumni graduate from a program of post–secondary education.
