Two Professors to Retire from California Lutheran University

Julia Sieger and Mel Haberman to be designated emeriti professors

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – May 2007) – California Lutheran University will see the retirement of two professors as the semester draws to a close in May. Julia Sieger, Ed.D., of the School of Education, and Mel Haberman, Ph.D., of the English Department, will become emeriti faculty members.

After joining the CLU faculty in 1999, Sieger began teaching foundation courses in the Teacher Preparation Program and served as coordinator of the liberal studies program before becoming Assistant Dean of the School of Education. She came to CLU with more than 15 years of experience in education as a teacher and administrator in both the public and private sectors. She earned her bachelor’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles, her master’s at University of La Verne, and her doctorate from the University of San Francisco.

Mel Haberman, who joined the CLU faculty in 1979, earned his bachelor’s degree from The City College of New York and his Ph.D. from Harvard University. With a special interest in the work of Charles Dickens, Haberman completed a full-length manuscript on the novels of the famed author. During his time at CLU, Haberman has taught courses in cinema, American literature and humanities.
