California Lutheran University is ranked 20th on the 2008 "U.S. News & World Report" list of top schools in the West offering quality bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

CLU has placed in the top tier of Western Regional Universities, which includes states from Texas to the West Coast, in the "U.S. News & World Report" annual rankings for 13 years. The new rankings were posted today on the "U.S. News & World Report" Web site at http://www.usnews.com and will be featured in the Aug. 27 edition of the U.S. News & World Report magazine and the U.S. News & World Report America’s Best Colleges Guide 2008.

“It is great to be once again in the top 20 universities of the Western region, a recognition of both our strong graduate and undergraduate programs,” said Chris Kimball, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “But while the numerical ranking is gratifying, we care most about the success of our students, both as students and as they dedicate their lives to work and service.”

Based on high scores in several key categories, CLU has maintained its spot among top institutions in the West. CLU continues to rank high in student-to-faculty ratio (15-1), and the percentage of classes that have fewer than 20 students rose to 68 percent. The University also consistently receives high marks in freshman retention rates (81 percent).

The annual U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on several measures of quality including assessments by the country’s top academics, student graduation rates and the school’s faculty resources.

CLU is a selective liberal arts and sciences university located in Thousand Oaks, with graduate centers in Oxnard and Woodland Hills. With an enrollment of more than 3,200 students, CLU offers 36 undergraduate majors and graduate programs within the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and School of Education. Doctoral degrees in educational leadership and higher education leadership are also offered. Members of the CLU student body come from across the nation and around the world and represent a diversity of faiths and cultures. For more information, please visit www.callutheran.edu
