CLU Opens Academic Year with Formal Procession

New faculty and students welcomed at convocation

California Lutheran University will hold its Opening Academic Convocation for the 2007-2008 year at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, in Samuelson Chapel.

Faculty and administrators will assemble in full academic attire to welcome a new dean, eight new faculty members and about 615 new freshmen and transfer students. The University will recognize the Presidential Scholars, Scholastic Honor Society members, students named to the Provost’s Honor List for spring semester, and Honors at Entrance recipients. Faculty who have received tenure or advanced in rank will also be honored.

Joan L. Griffin, Ph.D., will be introduced as the new Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The following new faculty members also will be presented: Ariane Balizet, English; Grady Hanrahan, Chemistry; Steven Hawkins and Will Jonen, Exercise Science and Sports Medicine; Maura Martindale, School of Education; Renee Rock, School of Business; Seth Wagerman, Psychology; Don Waisanen, Communication.

Chris Kimball, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, will deliver the keynote address.

The fall semester for undergraduate students begins on Wednesday, Aug. 29.
