Falk family of Simi Valley endows scholarship at CLU

Funds will benefit nontraditional students

Because the Falk family of Simi Valley feels so strongly about lifelong learning and their college experience, the family of three CLU alumni has created the Falk Family Scholarship.

Their initial gift of $50,000 has endowed a scholarship that will benefit nontraditional students who are returning to college as adults or transferring to CLU.

A retired vice president with Farmers Insurance, Howard Falk received his MBA from CLU in 1992. His wife, Jerry, a fifth-grade teacher at Good Shepherd Lutheran School, earned her bachelor’s degree in education in 1993 and a teaching credential in 1994. Their daughter, Vanessa Nguyen, completed her bachelor’s degree in history earlier this year and is currently doing her student teaching and taking postgraduate courses in CLU’s School of Education.

“This very generous gift is unique in that the Falks have made a commitment to ultimately provide $250,000 for the endowed scholarship,” said Steve Wheatly, Vice President for Advancement at CLU.

CLU is a selective liberal arts and sciences university located in Thousand Oaks, with graduate centers in Oxnard and Woodland Hills. With an enrollment of more than 3,400 students, CLU offers 36 undergraduate majors and graduate programs within the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and School of Education. Doctoral degrees in educational leadership and higher education leadership are also offered. Members of the CLU student body come from across the nation and around the world and represent a diversity of faiths and cultures. For more information, please visit www.callutheran.edu
