College presidents to speak to business community

CLU, CSUCI and Moorpark College leaders will discuss challenges

The Rev. Dr. Howard E. Wennes, CLU's interim president, will join the presidents of CSUCI and Moorpark College on the panel.

The presidents of California Lutheran University, California State University Channel Islands and Moorpark College will discuss higher education issues at CLU’s Corporate Leaders Breakfast on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Hugh Ralston, president of the Ventura County Community Foundation, will moderate the panel consisting of the Rev. Dr. Howard E. Wennes of CLU, Dr. Richard R. Rush of CSUCI and Dr. Eva Conrad of Moorpark College. They will discuss common issues they face including diversity, technology and finances.

Wennes is serving as CLU’s interim president for the second time. A former member of the Board of Regents, Wennes has also served as director of church relations, assistant to the president for university ministries and university ambassador.

Prior to coming to the newest campus in the California State University system in 2001, Rush was president of Minnesota State University, Mankato, for nine years and played a key role in the founding of California State University San Marcos.

Conrad has worked in community college management since 1992 and received the Leadership Award for Administrative Excellence from the Association of California Community College Administrators in 2002.

The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. in CLU’s Lundring Events Center, which is located in the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center at the corner of Olsen Road and Mountclef Boulevard in Thousand Oaks.

The last speaker in the 2007-2008 series will be Scott Simon, host of National Public Radio’s “Weekend Edition Saturday,” on April 21.

The Corporate Leaders Breakfast Series brings the region’s business and civic leaders together to share ideas and hear from prominent business leaders in the community. Merrill Lynch of Westlake Village, Sodexho, the Pacific Coast Business Times, the Ventura County Star, Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, Rabobank, Business Exit Advisors Inc. and Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park are sponsoring the series.
