CLU hosts "Festival of Scholars"
Presentations showcase student and faculty achievements
(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – March 19, 2008) California Lutheran University will showcase the achievements of students and faculty during public presentations and performances slated from Thursday, March 27, through Friday, April 4.
The Festival of Scholars started last year as an opportunity for undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences to share their original research and projects. This year it has expanded to include graduate students and faculty and to feature work from the School of Business and the School of Education as well.
Highlights of the free events include the following:
Scholar-Activists: CLU Sustainability Project
10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, March 27, in Overton Hall
“Environmental Ethics” students will present their research.
Adventures in Time and Place
2 to 3:50 p.m. Monday, March 31, and Wednesday, April 2, in Soiland Humanities Center
Students will give multimedia presentations on one day in the lives of California Lutheran University, the city of Thousand Oaks and city of Los Angeles.
Reel Madness
Experts in film studies, psychology and psychoanalysis will explore four films through a psychoanalytic lens. “The Piano Teacher” – 7 to 10 p.m. Monday, March 31; “Psycho” – 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 1; “Mr. Brooks” – 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 2; “Equus” – 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, April 3. In Preus-Brandt Forum.
Sociology PowerPoint Presentations
11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in Overton Hall
Students will present their findings on religious individualism in youth, gender in children’s play and the influence of binge drinking on students’ attitudes.
Honors Student Music Recital
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in Samuelson Chapel
Criminal Justice and Psychology Panel
10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, in Soiland Humanities Center
“Criminal Psychology” students will present their research on social psychological factors associated with crime based on interviews with Ventura County inmates.
