(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Oct. 21, 2008) California Lutheran University will bestow the Christus Award upon its former director of church relations during the Founders Day Convocation on Friday, Oct. 24.

Beverly Anderson of Sun City, Ariz., will receive the award during the 10 a.m. ceremony in Samuelson Chapel. The award is presented annually to a person who has done an outstanding job building a bridge between the university and the church and/or has made significant contributions to higher education in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

Anderson started working at CLU in 1973 and served as director of church relations from 1979 to 1988. She left for a few years to work as the area director for Lutheran Social Services of Ventura County and then returned to serve as assistant to the provost from 1993 until she moved to Arizona in 1994.

While in California, Anderson also served on the California Lutheran Educational Foundation, which promoted development of the university. She is currently a member of CLU’s Convocation, which elects the Board of Regents and serves as ambassadors, counselors and recruiters for the university.

After moving to Arizona, Anderson served as Region II regional coordinator for the ELCA from 1995 to 1999 and most recently served as a church relations associate for the Grand Canyon Synod. She and her husband have three grown children, including two CLU graduates.

CLU’s annual Founders Day Convocation is an opportunity to recall the university’s genesis, give thanks for its heritage and pray for its success. This year’s ceremony is the 50th anniversary of CLU’s first convocation held on Oct. 24, 1958.
