CLU will hold International Chapel Service

Procession to include the flags of 30 countries

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Nov. 12, 2008) California Lutheran University will hold its annual International Chapel Service at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Samuelson Chapel.

This annual service celebrates the campus’ diversity and the unity of people’s faith in God.

CLU has 190 international students from 30 countries. New countries represented this year include Romania and Sri Lanka. Combined with the students who come to Cal Lutheran from 43 states from throughout the United States, they represent a diversity of faiths, cultures and ethnicities.

The service will begin with a procession of flags from all the countries represented on campus. Student Edward Nanyaro of Tanzania will sing. Students who come from other countries and who have studied abroad will talk about their experiences. The event will also honor faculty from other countries.

The service is part of International Education Week in the United States. International Programs, the Asian Club & Friends and the United Students of the World club are also sponsoring a World Fair for students on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 19. It will feature international food, performances and the sharing of traditions such as henna tattoos and origami.

CLU’s offices of Campus Ministry and Multicultural and International Programs are sponsoring the free International Chapel Service, which is open to the public. The chapel is located near the corner of Olsen Road and Campus Drive in Thousand Oaks.
