CLU honors scholars during festival

Research by undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education and School of Business will be featured in public presentations and demonstrations.

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – April 6, 2009) The Third Annual Festival of Scholars at California Lutheran University will showcase the work of students and faculty from Monday, April 27, through Friday, May 1.

Research, creative work and the application of theory to real-life situations by undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education and School of Business will be featured in public presentations, demonstrations and performances. This year’s festival also includes new sessions on faculty scholarship. 

CLU’s new Office for Undergraduate Research is presenting the free events. Highlights include the following:

Adventures in Time and Place
2 to 3 p.m. Monday, April 27, and 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in Soiland Humanities Center Room 124
Students and team leaders will explain new works in immersive digital cinema, exhibition, photography and graphic design that explore one day in the life of CLU, Thousand Oaks and the city of Los Angeles.
 
General Poster Session
Noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, in Lundring Events Center
Visitors can view large visual representations of scholarly work from a variety of disciplines and talk to the presenters.

Reel Madness: Villains We Love to Hate – A Film Series
Three movies depicting compelling sociopaths will be screened and discussed by experts in a variety of fields including film studies, psychology and psychoanalysis.  “The Talented Mr. Ripley” - 7 to 10 p.m. Monday, April 27, in Preus-Brandt Forum; “Batman: The Dark Knight” - 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, Lundring Events Center; and “Silence of the Lambs” - 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, April 30, Lundring Events Center

Crash: A Transformative Intersection where Psychology and Theology/Spirituality Meet
11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 29, Samuelson Chapel.
A panel of experts will discuss contradictory views on what happens when spirituality and psychology come together.

Arboretum Tour
3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, beginning in All Nations Plaza
Botanist and CLU biology professor Barbara Collins will lead a walk through the campus arboretum that bears her name.
