CLU promotions announced

Three faculty members will become full professors

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - April 22, 2010) The Board of Regents of California Lutheran University approved several promotions in rank and tenure for faculty.

Tim Hengst (Multimedia) and Michaela Reaves (History), both of Thousand Oaks, advanced to the rank of full professor. Hengst earned his bachelor's at CLU and his master's at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Reaves completed her bachelor's at CLU, her master's at California State University, Northridge, and her doctorate at University of California, Santa Barbara.

Steven A. Hawkins (Exercise Science) of Newbury Park was elected to tenure and advanced to the rank of full professor. He completed his bachelor's and master's degrees at Emporia State University, Kansas, and received his doctorate from University of Southern California.

Christopher Christian of Thousand Oaks, director of the Community Counseling and Parent Child Study Center of CLU, advanced to the rank of associate professor. He received his bachelor's degree at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, his master's from the University of Hartford and doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Jose Marichal (Political Science), Marja Mogk (English) and Janice Tucker (Education) were granted tenure and advanced to the rank of associate professor. Marichal of Thousand Oaks received his bachelor's from Florida State University, his master's from Florida Atlantic University and doctorate from University of Colorado, Boulder. Mogk of Camarillo earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her doctorate from University of California, Berkeley. Tucker of Thousand Oaks completed a bachelor's degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland, a master's at Mount Saint Vincent University and doctorate at Indiana University.

Gerhard Apfelthaler (Business), Jonathan Cordero (Sociology), Grady Hanrahan (Chemistry) and Mindy Puopolo (Psychology) were granted tenure. Apfelthaler of Thousand Oaks earned a master's degree and doctorate at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. Cordero of Newbury Park received his bachelor's from UC Berkeley and his master's and doctorate from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Hanrahan, a Chatsworth resident who serves as the John Stauffer Endowed Professor of Analytical Chemistry, completed his bachelor's at Indiana State University, master's at Southern Illinois University and doctorate at the University of Plymouth, England. Puopolo, an Oak Park resident and director of graduate programs in psychology, received her bachelor's degree from Plymouth State University, her master's from Notre Dame College and doctorate from Pepperdine University.

The promotions will take effect in August.
