CLU faculty promotions announced

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - May 4, 2012) The Board of Regents of California Lutheran University has approved several promotions in rank and tenure for faculty.

Michele LeBlanc of the Exercise Science Department, Susan Murphy of the School of Management and Adina Nack of the Sociology Department will advance to the rank of full professor. LeBlanc, of Thousand Oaks, earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics and doctorate in human performance from Indiana University and a master's degree in mathematics from University of North Carolina. Murphy, of Simi Valley, has a bachelor's degree in marketing and MBA from Texas Tech University and a doctorate in human resources management from University of Illinois at Chicago. Nack, of Thousand Oaks, has a bachelor's degree in social ecology from University of California, Irvine, and a doctorate in sociology from University of Colorado, Boulder.

The following were elected to tenure and advanced to the rank of associate professor: Michael Cosenza and Diana Stephens of the Graduate School of Education; Christine Sellin of the Art Department; Sam Thomas of the Religion Department; Allison Wee of the English Department; Paul Witman of the School of Management; and Akiko Yasuike of the Sociology Department.

Cosenza, of Moorpark, has a bachelor's degree in American government from Queens College of City University of New York and a master's and doctorate in education from CLU. Stephens, of Camarillo, has a bachelor's degree in sociology from California State University, Los Angeles, a master's in school counseling from University of Redlands, and a master's in human development and doctorate in human and organizational systems from Fielding Graduate University. Sellin, of Encino, has a bachelor's degree in English literature from University of California, Berkeley, and a master's and doctorate in art history from University of California, Los Angeles. Thomas, of Camarillo, has a bachelor's degree in biology/pre-medicine from St. John's University, a master's of divinity from Yale University Divinity School and a doctorate in Christianity and Judaism in antiquity from University of Notre Dame. Wee, of Moorpark, has a bachelor's degree in English and religion from St. Olaf College and a doctorate in English from University of Minnesota. Witman, of Simi Valley, has a bachelor's in math and computer science from UCLA and a master's in computer information systems and doctorate in information systems and technology from Claremont Graduate University. Yasuike, of Reseda, has bachelor's degrees in English and general studies from Kwansai Gakuin University and Gonzaga University, respectively, a master's in sociology from California State University, Northridge, and a doctorate in sociology from University of Southern California.

Assistant professors Christopher Brown of the Mathematics Department and Lisa Buono of the Graduate School of Education were elected to tenure. Brown, of Camarillo, has a bachelor's and master's in applied mathematics from University of Missouri, Rolla, and a doctorate in mathematics from University of Colorado, Boulder. Buono, of Newbury Park, has a bachelor's in dramatic arts from University of California, Santa Barbara, and a master's in counseling and guidance and a doctorate in higher education leadership from CLU.

The promotions will take effect Sept. 1.
