THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Chapman outlasted a Carleton comeback and George Fox breezed past Cal Lutheran on the second day of the Posada Royale Thanksgiving Classic Saturday evening in the Gilbert Sports Arena.

Game 1:

A day after shooting just 1-10 from the field, Jami Roos found her shooting touch again, scoring 19  first half points including five three-pointers as George Fox raced past Cal Lutheran 75-44 on the second day of the Thanksgiving Tournament. With the win, George Fox earned their first victory of the year and finished their California road-trip 1-2.

The Bruins got out to a 42-24 lead after forcing 13 Regal turnovers while Roos was five for nine from three-point range.

George Fox would extend their lead to as large as 37 with 4:41 left in the game when Samantha Naluai hit a runner, putting George Fox up 73-36.

Cal Lutheran shooters would cool off in the second half, shooting just 20 percent from the field the last twenty minutes as George Fox coasted the rest of the way, securing their first win of the season.

Roos led all scorers with 22 points while Megan Arnoldy and Megan Hays each finished with 11.

Channing Fleischmann led Cal Lutheran with 12 points and Rachel Deagy had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Erica Whitley pulled down seven rebounds and Natalie Stone dished out four assists.

Fleischmann, Roos, and Arnoldy were all named to the All-Tournament Team.

Cal Lutheran will be back in action next Monday, November 26, at 7:30 p.m. when they take on Whitworth in Gilbert Arena.

Game 2:

Defensive pressure and hot shooting from Emily McCoy got Chapman past a pesky Carleton squad as the Panthers defeated the Knights 80-71 Saturday evening in Gilbert Arena.

 The Panthers led by as much as 17 with 7:54 remaining in the second half but two three-pointers from Megan Chavez would eventually get Carleton to within six at 75-69 with just a over a minute remaining. Carleton tried to force a turnover but Kimi Takaoka would elude three defenders in the back-court before being fouled. She would go on to hit both free-throws and Chapman held on for the victory.

Chapman forced 38 Carleton turnovers and while shooting over 50 percent from the three-point line.

McCoy, who was named the Tournament’s most outstanding player following the game, led all scorers with 27 points. Takaoka finished with 17 points and Sandra Gao ended with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Chavez, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led Carleton with 23 points and Emma Purfeerst was second with 15 points.

Chapman finishes the tournament 2-0 and improves to 4-0 overall. Carleton falls to 0-2 on the year.
