Regals Finish Third at Rhodes Invitational

CLU finishes third, Weiler finishes seventh individually

MEMPHIS, Tenn. --  The Cal Lutheran women’s golf team closed out its regular season with a final-round 347 to finish in third place at the Rhodes Invitational Tuesday. The Regals finished with a two-day combined score of 680 (333-347). It marked the fifth straight tournament Cal Lutheran has finished third this season.

McKay Weiler was CLU’s top overall golfer, producing a final-round 82 on the par-72 5,836-yard layout of the Wyndyke Country Club. The freshman from Monrovia, Calif. tied for seventh in the 35-player with a 36-hole total of 160.

Devon Meredith was Cal Lutheran’s after carding a final-round 86. Her two-day total of 169 (83-86) put her in 15th place.

After both shooting 86 during the first round Monday, Aida Mahfood bested Danika Cochiolo by one shot in the final round. Mahfood recorded an 89 while Cochiolo closed with a 90. The tandem finished 18th and 19th respectively.

Lisa Borgialli rounded out the Regals with this biggest improvement, bettering her first-round score by eight strokes Tuesday. Her two-day total of 188 (98-90) was good for 24th place.

Julia Burris, who competed as individual, managed a final-round 90 to finish in 28th.

Centre (Ky.) captured the team title with a two-round total of 611 that included a final-round 301. The Colonels pulled away from Rhodes, who finished second with a combined score of 643.

Centre’s Whitney Miller maintained her first-round lead and delivered the low number of the day with a one-over par 73 during the final round to earn the individual title. The senior finished with a two-round total of 148 (75-73), three shots better than her second-place finishing teammate, Allison Hancock. Centre’s Michaela Manley and Millsaps’ Lauren Durbin tied for third after both shot a two-day score of 155.

Cal Lutheran now turns its attention the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships which start Saturday, April 27th at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif.
