Financial Aid

Cal Lutheran offers a variety of funding options from internal and external sources. Don’t let the cost of an education keep you from realizing your academic goals. If cost is a concern for you, call us at 805-493-3325.

First thing’s first: file your FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the federal financial aid application that must be completed by anyone seeking federal or state financial assistance from an educational institution in the U.S. Our FAFSA school code is 001133. This form must be submitted each academic year.

Federal and private loans

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans

Eligibility for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan is determined by the FAFSA and is not need-based. Students must be enrolled at least half time (three credits or more per term) to receive a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Eligibility will be determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

Alternative/Private Loans

Alternative student loans (also called education or private student loans) are designed to bridge the gap between college costs and traditional financial aid resources. They may be used to help pay for current term expenses, past due balances from a previous term or academic year, and can also be used for students who are enrolled less than half time. Visit our alternative loans page for more information on these loans and how to apply.
