International Student Seminar

All new international students are required to attend the International Student Seminar held at the beginning of each fall and spring semester or term (for some graduate programs). Information necessary to maintain international student status is presented along with needed information about campus resources, policies, and activities. Please remember to bring all of your travel documents with you to orientation (I-20, I-94, Passport, Visa).

Student Health Insurance

For information regarding Student Health Insurance please visit CLU Health Services or call 805-493-3225. If you are a current international student and have not received your insurance card please call UnitedHealthcare Student Resources at 1-800-767-0700 to request a permanent card. Please visit UnitedHealthcare and select California Lutheran University from the "Find my School's Plan" section to view the International Student Poilcy Brochure and to print a Temporary ID Card until your permanent card arrives.

International Student Advising

All international students are entitled to have their immigration questions and concerns addressed. Both Linda Boberg and Juanita Hall have master's degrees in counseling college students. It is best to email Dr. Hall directly for an appointment; Linda is available for walk in advising.

Workshops

Throughout the year, various workshops are offered to continuing students on a variety of topics designed to ensure student success.

Workshops include:

Understanding the American Classroom held in the Fall

Immigration workshop, , Nelson Room at 12:00 noon.

Additionally, there are OPT workshops online to help you understand what you need to do to apply for Optional Practical Training.

Opportunties to work online to file taxes are held in March. All students who lived in this country the previous calendar year are required to file taxes.

 

Book and Video Library

A large collection of books and videos by or about minority and international populations are available for checkout by the entire campus community. Easy sign and go policy. We just ask that items are returned within one week. To send us your recommendations for additions to our library, please email us. For a complete listing of our books and videos, click here.

Games and Cultural Music Library

The Multicultural Office has a wide variety of cultural music and board games available for check out. Just stop by the office to check them out.

International Graduation Stoles

Our office provides graduating international students with stoles representing their country to wear at the graduation ceremony each spring. To pre-order a stole, please sign up in the Office at the beginning of February. Stoles cost $35 for one country; $45 if you want two countries on your stole.
