Library Borrowing Policy
Local Teachers / Clergy

*Periodicals, Microform, Reference Books, and CLU thesis are all
available for In Library Use Only.
**Ventura County teachers of grades K-12 in with current proof of
employment qualify. Applications are available at the circulation
desk in Pearson Library.
**Local Teachers may obtain a free limited-use library card by showing
proof of qualification and a valid California Driver’s License/State
ID at the Circulation Desk. These library cards may be renewed each
year by resubmitting proof. (Proof of qualification may include a
membership ID card, pay stub, or other approved official statement.) Library card is required to use the facility.

Library Building Use Policy
Renewal of library
materials may be made on or before the item due date, providing no
other patron has requested the item(s). (See chart above for renewal
limitations.) Renewal requests may be placed by speaking with a Pearson
Library Circulation Desk attendant.
Interlibrary Loan: We are unable to extend Interlibrary Loan privileges to alumni and community borrowers. The public library offers Interlibrary Loan services to members
Holds: (asking for a book to be held for you when it is returned) are not available, as priority must be given to faculty and those currently enrolled.
Course Reserves are located at the Circulation Desk and are available only to those enrolled in the course. All items are subject to immediate recall if needed for course reserves.
Library Fines
and Replacement Charges:
• The Library does not charge daily overdue fines on General
Collection materials. Long-overdue materials will be declared missing
and you will be billed $50.00 for each item. When items over 2 months
overdue are returned, there is still a $5.00 billing fee. Please consult
with a librarian before purchasing an item for replacement of a library
copy. Only approved replacement copies will be accepted in lieu of
the $50 replacement cost. A $10.00 processing fee will still apply
(in addition to the $5 billing fee).
• There is a $1.00 per day overdue charge for late videos, DVDs,
laser disk, course reserves, education/psychology materials, and items
recalled for course reserves.
• Overdue materials are not renewable and no additional items
may be checked out to you (including Reserve items) until you return
the overdue materials.
Pearson Library Building Use Policy
General Info:
• A current library card is required to use the facility.
• No food, drink, or tobacco products are allowed in the library. (Bottled water with a secure cap is permitted.)
• No cell phone usage in the library. Please turn pagers/phones off or to silent mode while in the library. When receiving a call, immediately place the call on hold and move to a designated usage area.
• The library atriums as well as the lobby may be used for snacks/phone calls, providing they do not disturb others.
• While in the library, you may be asked to show proof that you are a student at the university (library card, picture ID, etc.). The library is open to community members; however some resources are for university use only and may be monitored.
• Persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a Community Borrower, Local Teacher, CLU student, staff or faculty member.
• In-house use of materials is permitted as space is available. CLU students have priority use of carrels, tables, computers, and materials. Community members may be asked to move or leave if space is needed or if they create disruptions.
Library Computer Lab Info:
• PAC/Research area computers are for quick research and that which requires Reference assistance. Typing word documents, checking email, etc. are prohibited in this area.
• Only Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni are permitted in the library computer lab area and only when doing university-related business.
• Community Borrowers and Local Teachers are limited to using the PAC/Research computers to access our library catalog (through the quick login feature). No other computer access or function is permitted.
• Priority for computer use will be given to students working on coursework on a first come first serve basis.
• Report any problems to the Circulation or Help Desk.
• In addition to these rules, all users are subject to campus computer use policies.
Room Reservations:
• Community Borrowers and Alumni are unable to reserve a room in our facility.
Summer Programs and Camps on Campus:
• Students affiliated with special CLU camps and programs on campus may use the computer labs for university and program related business.
• All users are subject to the campus computer use policies as well as library use policies.
• Not complying with any of these rules may result in loss of privileges.
• The library computer lab is an open computer lab area available for walk-in use and can accommodate 22 computer users. Groups needing access to 15 or more computers should book a computer lab room through Media Services, so as not to monopolize library resources.
Theft and mutilation of Library materials are acts contrary to
and punishable by law. Any non-circulating item, or any circulating
item that has not been properly checked out, will cause the exit alarm
to sound and the exit gate to lock. Repeated security violations will
be referred to the Vice President of Student Affairs.
