Common Questions

For First-Year Students

If I apply early for your school, am I applying early for all schools?
No, you have the ability to submit your application to individual schools with the Common Application.

Can I send additional information to be reviewed with my application, example: resume, additional letters of recommendation, list of activities not on app?
Yes, you may submit additional information if you prefer; however it is not required. You can attach multiple letters of recommendation to your Common Application. If you would like to submit something else, something after you have submitted your Commn Application, or have any questions, please contact your admission counselor directly. Find your counselor.

Do I need to have everything in by November 15 for early action? I am taking the SATs in November.
Yes, all application materials must be received or postmarked by November 15 to meet our Early Action deadline. This includes, The Common Application, Essay, Letter of Recommendation, Official High School Transcripts, Official SAT or ACT scores. Check application dates and deadlines.

I have been selected as a Dean's Candidate, what does that mean?
A Dean’s Candidate is a student who has been selected for a variety of reasons.  The admission committee has identified you as an individual who can contribute to the Cal Lutheran community both academically and personally.  Your selection as a Dean’s Candidate will be taken into consideration during the formal application review process.

When you are ready to apply, select "I'm a Dean's Candidate" on the Member Questions section of your Common Application.

What grades are considered for admission and scholarships?
Scholarships for incoming first-year students are based on their 9-11 grades and curriculum. Senior year curriculum and grades (if available) will factor into your admission decision, but they will not have an effect on the amount of scholarship you earn. If you apply before your senior grades have been posted and we need to review them in order to make a final admission decision, we will contact you to request an updated official copy of your transcript with your 1st term senior grades.

How do I send updated SAT/ACT scores once I submit?
Contact College Board or ACT to have your official scores sent to Cal Lutheran. Our school codes are:

  • SAT code: 4088
  • ACT code: 0183

I have submitted my Common Application but I don't see that Cal Lutheran has downloaded it, does that mean you don't have it?
No, just because we have not downloaded it, does not mean that it was not submitted to Cal Lutheran. During high volume periods, it takes time to process application materials. Feel free to contact our office if you have any questions regarding your application status.

When will I hear about an admission decision?
Our Early Action admission decisions will be mailed out in mid-January. If you filed a FAFSA, financial aid awards will start going out in late February.

Our Regular Decisions admission notifications will be mailed out on April 1. If you submitted a FAFSA, you will be receiving your financial aid award then as well. Keep an eye on your mailbox!

By when do I need to submit a FAFSA?
October 1 is the first day to file for FAFSA. We encourage you to submit it as soon as possible to get your financial aid award on time!

When do I pay my deposit?
You’ll have up until May 1 (National Reply Date) to pay the enrollment deposit to reserve your spot in the Fall class. If you plan to live on campus, you should submit the housing application and deposit as soon as possible to guarantee your first choice residence hall. The deposit amount is $450.

What is Admitted Student Day?
