Walk your passion

Alumnae Jane Galluzzi ‘13 and Carly Mouzes ‘13 love their volunteer work for the Arthritis Foundation in LA. Currently focusing energy on the May 30 Walk to Cure Arthritis, they are recruiting runners for their Cal Lutheran “Cruisers for a Cure” team. Their goal is to help the foundation recruit 4,000 walkers and raise $550,000 for research and summer camps for children with arthritis. Both women have grandmothers who have arthritis.

Jane, a communication major and varsity water polo player at Cal Lutheran, works full-time as an executive assistant for Fraser Communications, where her boss is “really big on giving back.” Carly, a marketing communication major, is a copywriter for Jafra Cosmetics. It was only after they graduated, however, that they began to fully appreciate the strong community they had in Cal Lutheran.

For Carly, it was the small class sizes and contacts with professors that helped her recognize her strengths, as well as the group projects. “They helped you learn what you’re good at and what you have to contribute.”

This year’s walk registration begins at 7 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 in Exposition Park in LA. Register to join Carly and Jane, plus Michael Austin ’13 and junior Brittany Davis, at www.lawalktocurearthritis.org. Or become a “virtual” walker by making a donation.
