CLU Choir
The premiere choral ensemble at Cal Lutheran.
The choir has earned an enviable reputation in its home state and throughout the Western United States for its commitment to performing the finest in choral literature from all eras in their original languages.
While dedicated to performing works that represent the university's Lutheran heritage, the choir also embraces innovative new music as well as music expressing a multi-cultural perspective.

Each fall the members of the choir are carefully selected by audition. While several are music majors, the ensemble reflects the diverse interests and disciplines of the California Lutheran University student body.
In March 2004, the choir was honored to sing at the invitation of the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) at their annual convention held in Sacramento.
Meet Our Choral Director
Franco Basili, Instructor, Music and Choir Director

The Music Department is pleased to have Franco Basili join us in the 2025-26 academic year as our Choral Director and Assistant Professor in Music. A native of Argentina, Basili is currently completing his DMA in Choral Conducting from the University of Houston. His engaging enthusiasm and natural expressiveness will make him a uniquely inspiring conductor of the CLU Choir.
Basili replaces our long-serving choral director Wyant Morton, who retired at the end of the 2024-25 academic year after over 30 years of service at Cal Lutheran.
Scholarships
Students of any major participating in a performance ensemble may be considered for a Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Scholarship—awarding $2,500 up to full tuition—with an audition.
