Vocational Identity and Talent in Academic Learning

Faculty Learning Circles

The VITAL (Vocation Identity & Talent in Academic Learning) grant, generously supported by the Department of Education's Title V HSI grant, is dedicated to enhancing the professional development of full-time faculty members at California Lutheran University.

What is VITAL Faculty Learning Circles?

The VITAL Faculty Learning Circles (FLC) program is an immersive professional development initiative designed to empower our faculty. It fosters active participation and encourages rigorous dialogues and evaluations, particularly focusing on the vocational mentorship of students. Our aim is to create a culturally relevant and responsive approach, catering to the diverse needs of all students, with a special emphasis on those from historically marginalized backgrounds.

Train the Trainers Program

Faculty members who participate in the VITAL FLC program become the torchbearers of excellence. Faculty in the FLC will:

  • Closely collaborate with their respective department chairs in developing departmental handbooks dedicated to vocational mentorship.
  • Create departmental handbooks dedicated to vocational mentorship.
  • Create campus-wide standards for the Faculty Mentor role with an implementation plan for their own departments.
  • Be compensated for their time. Please see the call for proposal for more details on compensation.
