The community is invited to watch sculptor Paul Lucchesi at work throughout the month.

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Aug. 27, 2009) International artist Paul Lucchesi will spend a month in residence at California Lutheran University, using the Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture as his studio to create a sculpture that will become part of the campus' collection.

An opening reception will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, and the community is invited to return throughout the month to watch Lucchesi at work. A closing reception will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15.

Lucchesi is a figurative sculptor and painter who is inspired by Italian Renaissance and Baroque sculpture. He works with mythical images and psychological contemporary issues.
He travels throughout the world and loves teaching the art of making sculpture in a fun setting. Using terra cotta as his material, he quickly brings clay to life. His graceful works have won numerous prizes from prestigious organizations including the National Sculpture Society and the National Academy of Design.

One of the sculptures Lucchesi creates at CLU will be cast in bronze and displayed on campus.

CLU's Artists and Speakers Committee and President's Office are sponsoring the Artist in Residence project. The exhibit is free.

The Kwan Fong Gallery is located in Soiland Humanities Center on Memorial Parkway in Thousand Oaks. It is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
