Careers in Communications Speaker Panel

Interested in a career in the Communication field? Speakers will talk about the nature of the job, skills necessary to be successful in the field, salary information and personal advice on how to break into the field. Tuesday, February 23rd 2015 from 4:00-5:30pm in the Ullman Commons 100 & 101

PANEL MEMBERS 

Jim Eichhorn, Race Director, Michael Epstein Sports Production (MESP)

Originally from the east coast, Jim Eichhorn attended Marietta College in southeast Ohio. Since graduation he has worked in the sports event management industry for 9 years. During his career he has produced soccer, football, basketball, and endurance athletic events nationwide. He has worked both in marketing and logistics to produce events for Blue Entertainment Sports Television, Lagardere Unlimited, and currently Michael Epstein Sports Productions.

Chad Phillips, Producer KTLA 5 News

Chad Phillips graduated with a degree in Communication from California Lutheran University in 2014. While attending CLU he focused on television production and journalism; two of his life passions. Since graduation, he’s gone on to become a producer at KTLA 5 News in Los Angeles. During his time at KTLA he’s had the opportunity to work on many exciting broadcasts including the Grammy Red Carpet, Emmy Red Carpet, Golden Globes, and The Rose Parade. He has also had the chance to field produce stories locally and abroad traveling to places like Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Japan.

Megan Rubin, Assistant Account Manager at Siltanen & Partners Advertising

Megan Rubin is a proud CLU Alumni from the class of 2014. During her time at CLU, she was a local 4-year commuter from Newbury Park, pursuing her BA Degree in Marketing Communications. During her studies and following graduation she was fortunate enough to work for local companies in the marketing field, K-Swiss Inc. and Stratosphere Marketing Solutions. Currently, she is exploring the advertising field as an Assistant Account Manager at Siltanen & Partners Advertising in El Segundo, CA.

Jon Myers, Director of Communications for American Red Cross

Jon Myers develops and implements the communications strategy for the Red Cross’ Los Angeles Region. By telling the Red Cross story, he helps to engage communities and educate the public regarding preparedness, safety, and valuable programs. With more than 15 years’ experience working in the public and private sector, Jon has helped develop a number of award winning outreach and communication strategies. Jon joined the Red Cross following 12 years working in California government, most recently as the Communications Director to the California Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board. He also served as Deputy Director of Public Affairs and Communications with CalRecycle, part of the California Environmental Protection Agency. Jon began his state government career working for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as Deputy Director of Constituent Affairs following his time working on the historical gubernatorial campaign. He also helped lead some of San Diego’s finest public relations agencies providing communications and public relation services for a variety of business, government and non-profit clients following years of working in local government

Margaret MoralesExecutive Production Manager for Bunim Murray Productions

Margaret graduated from CLU in 2010 as a Communication Major, with double emphasis in media production and public relations. She started working for BMP right after she graduated in their Human Resources department, then was a freelance employee for about six months and has now been part of the production management department for the last 4+ years.
