Black History Month LA Excursion

The excursion will begin at the California African American Museum (CAAM), the first African American museum of art, history, and culture. CAAM places students in an environment to celebrate and acknowledge the important role African Americans have played in the American West's cultural, economic, and political development. The visit will be highlighted around the Adee Roberson and Azikiwe Mohammed: because I am exhibit. The exhibit features, screen-prints, paintings, video, window vinyl, and a mix of sculptural works. Defining Blackness as an abstraction, something free of fixed narratives and boundaries. Students will have the opportunity to reflect about their own identity.

We will then head to a Black-owned restaurant for lunch and group discussion. 

The final stop will be at the Decade of Dimensions Art Show. The weekend-long art exhibit features four Black artists and taps into Black Futurism and Escapism.
