Faculty Resources

The CLU Writing Center is happy to offer a number of services for California Lutheran faculty. Here's some information about the CLU Writing Center community and what we can do for you and your students:

Undergraduate Writing Center Tutors:

  • Are required to take English 318, a course on tutoring linguistically diverse writers.
  • Can come to your class and give a 15-minute presentation on what we do at the Writing Center.
  • Can perform a 15-minute "mock" tutorial, modeling for your students what their Writing Center appointment might look like.
  • Will be waiting at the Writing Center for one-on-one work with your students and their papers.

Your students can make Writing Center appointments on Genbook.

Ursula Rush, Coordinator for Graduate and Adult Programs:

  • Can come to your class (once per semester) and give a citation workshop on the following styles: APA, Chicago (CMS), or MLA.
  • Can  come to your class and do a workshop on strategies for organizing and structuring research papers.
  • Can come to your class and do a workshop on writing for exams.
  • Will be waiting at the Writing Center for one-on-one work with your students and their papers.

Dr. Amber Engelson, Writing Center Director, Assistant Professor of English:

  • Can do departmental or individual consultations on the following topics:
    • Incorporating the writing process into existing syllabi/curricula.
    • Writing essay and assignment prompts.
    • Teaching multilingual students effectively.
    • Assessing student writing.
    • Using writing to encourage deep reading.
    • Incorporating peer responses into your curriculum.
    • Discussing grammar with students.
  • Can conduct university-wide workshops on the above topics, depending on the level of interest.
