Spring Semester Update for Undergraduate Students
Dear Cal Lutheran Undergraduate Students,
We hope your spring semester has started off well and that you are getting to know new faculty members and friends. For those of you new to Cal Lutheran, welcome! As you probably know, the regional stay-at-home order was lifted earlier this week. While proceeding with much caution, we are very excited to be able to return to modified outdoor activities and are happy to share the following updates:
We will begin offering classes in our outdoor classrooms on February 16. Ten outdoor classrooms have been created with full technology, lighting, and heaters. Faculty have the option of teaching labs and studio classes indoors starting February 16, so please check with your faculty if you are taking a lab or studio class. Once we return to the red tier, all scheduled indoor classes will be offered. Some classes will continue to be offered fully virtual through the spring semester.
You can see if your classes will be offered indoors, outdoors, or virtual on the course schedule, as follows:
- All fully virtual classes have a location of “virtual” listed
- The location of indoor classes will have a building and room listed in the course schedule
- The outdoor classrooms are designated with either a room called Tent or a building labeled Outdoor (OUTD)
Questions about classes can be sent to email@example.com.
Taking Classes Virtually
Students may elect to attend classes virtually through the Spring semester. All classrooms have been equipped with technology allowing faculty to simultaneously teach to students in the classroom and to those who Zoom in from a remote location. A “pop-up” message will appear in MyCLU within the next week where you will be asked whether you intend to attend your classes in-person or virtually.
Commuter Student COVID Testing
All commuter students will need to provide a negative COVID test prior to attending classes in-person for the first time. The “pop-up” message in MyCLU within the next week will prompt you to submit your negative COVID test. The test needs to be taken within 10 days of the first day you return to in-person classes. Further information on how to provide this information will be included in the “pop-up” message.
There are a limited number of spaces remaining in our residence halls for the spring semester. If you are now interested in moving on-campus this semester, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be happy to assist in getting you a room assignment. Spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
With the vaccine rollout and more promising trend lines, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel. As we continue on this journey, please remember to abide by the Cal Lutheran Compact to keep our community safe and headed in the right direction.
