About this event

This event has been postponed and will be rescheduled.  A webinar/virtual office hours with speaker Kathy Wertheim will be hosted on March 24 from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  Call in information will be sent to registered attendees.

Asking for money can be uncomfortable and awkward - but it doesn't have to be! This workshop led by Kathy Wertheim will prepare board members, development professionals, volunteers and staff to ask for donations, by demystifying the process and exploring best practices.

Sitting across from one person and asking for a donation is the most effective fundraising you can do, and yet so few organizations do it. Why? Some are afraid, but most just lack the education. In this workshop, you’ll learn:

  • How to get an appointment
  • Who to bring on the appointment
  • What handouts to bring
  • What a pledge form looks like
  • How to lead up to the moment when you ask for money
  • What to say when asking
  • What to do right after you ask
  • How to handle the answer, whether it’s a Yes, Maybe or No
  • How to create relationships that lead to large gifts and five-year pledges
  • How to overcome fear: yours, your staff, your board members
  • How to make rejection a laughing matter

This workshop will help beginners to advanced professionals, and is especially useful for board members.
