Leading with empathy means having the ability to understand the needs of others and being aware of their feelings and thoughts and creating an environment of safety, trust, and fairness. As we emerge from the pandemic era and our work becomes increasingly automated, nonprofit leaders need empathy skills and capabilities for managing their people and teams in remote, in-person, and especially hybrid environments. Unfortunately, it has long been considered a soft skill that's overlooked as a performance indicator that is increasingly important in environments of stress and disruption.
In practice, the empathetic leader understands how to give feedback to the people they manage in ways that build their skills and improve their performance while reducing stress. These leaders know how to exercise reflective listening skills, the ability to hear what people are saying beyond their words and guide them to success.
Learning Goals:
In this workshop, participants will:
- Explore how to create empathy as a cultural norm for your nonprofit’s workplace
- Learn a practical and simple framework for receiving and giving feedback without stress and other skills to build trust and create psychological safety
- Transform your 1:1s check-ins with staff and team so they are joyful and productive
