Elicia Faith Morman
Graduate Speaker
Elicia Morman serves as an executive administrative partner to the global operations
director in Eaton’s Aerospace Division, bringing over 15 years of experience supporting
executive leadership and global operations. She specializes in cross-functional
coordination, operational strategy and technology-enabled process improvements that
support large-scale manufacturing and operational teams.
Elicia also serves on the executive board of Women of Substance & Men of Honor and is dedicated to supporting foster and at-risk youth in both Ventura and L.A. counties through providing housing, mentorship and job coaching for young adults transitioning out of care.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from California Lutheran University
in 2009 and is graduating with her Executive MBA. She is a proud wife to a Navy veteran
and mother of two daughters: Avianna Bella and Marciella Noel.
Bishop Dr. Michael Mlahliwa Sukuphi Dube
Presiding Bishop, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zimbabwe
Bishop Dr. Michael Dube was born and raised in Zimbabwe. His professional journey
began in Ntepe, where he worked as a high school teacher, coached athletes and served
with the Red Cross. He held a provisional leadership role for several years before
pursuing training in first aid nursing with the Red Cross in Sweden. In 1998, he enrolled
at the United Theological College, earning a diploma in Religious Studies and Theology.
He began his ministry work and continued his education at the University of Zimbabwe
in 2001. Despite facing political challenges throughout his studies, he was ordained
as a pastor in August 2004. His first parish assignment was in Beitbridge in 2005.
From 2008 to 2010, he pursued and completed a master’s degree in sacred theology at
Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. He returned to Zimbabwe, was assigned
a parish in 2012 and continued his ministry across various parishes in the country.
In 2016, Bishop Dube was elected as the bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Zimbabwe’s Western Diocese. He has recruited over 15 ministers and remains committed
to developing future leaders of the church. He is deeply involved in humanitarian
leadership, the mentorship of young pastors and empowering youth interested in ministry.
He serves as the chairman and health commissioner of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches.
His dedication to leadership and service was recognized with an honorary doctorate
from Jaizo University. Bishop Dube is a proud husband to Ulebile Dube, a farmer and
leader of the women’s ministry in Zimbabwe. Together, they have four children — two
sons and two daughters.
Megan Fischer
GSPC Representative
Megan Fischer's path to Cal Lutheran is anything but linear. She began her college
journey at Cal Poly SLO as a pre-vet student before falling in love with psychology,
ultimately earning her BA from CSUN and her MA in forensic clinical psychology from
Phillips Graduate Institute. Her clinical career took her from community-based therapy
and the Los Angeles County juvenile prison system to six years of neurofeedback and
biofeedback work with children diagnosed with ADHD, Autism and related challenges.
That clinical experience pointed her toward her true calling: education.
After nearly a decade teaching in the community college district, Megan joined Cal Lutheran in 2020 and teaches in the Psychology Department. She advises The Hidden Opponent Club (dedicated to student-athlete mental health) and is president of the Graduate and Professional Student Council and director of Retention and Transition Programs.
What drives Megan isn't a title — it's people. She wants to be remembered for hearing
her students, knowing them and showing up during one of the most transformative chapters
of their lives. She finds joy in the outdoors, in her kids’ soccer games and in a
career that never bores her.
Joel Silva
Guest Speaker
Joel Silva is the Chief Financial Officer for Vallarta Supermarkets, a privately-held
company based in Los Angeles with 64 stores throughout central and southern California
and Phoenix, Arizona. He also serves as an independent board member for Viamericas
Corp, a privately held fintech company, and as an advisory board member for Cal Lutheran’s
School of Management. He is originally from Texas, where he obtained his B.B.A. in
accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. Joel began his career in public
accounting with Arthur Andersen, where he spent 15 years in the audit division; the
last five of these years were in Mexico City as an expatriate with Ruiz Urquiza (the
Mexican affiliate of Arthur Andersen), working with foreign investors doing business
in Mexico, as well as Mexican companies offering securities in the United States.
Joel left Arthur Andersen as a national partner. Since then, he has worked as a corporate
controller and chief financial officer of several companies, including Calavo Growers,
Universal Music Group, Jafra Cosmetics, Sigue Corporation and Viamericas Corp., focused
on doing business in Mexico and throughout Latin America, as well as with Hispanic
customers in the U.S. He specializes in financial and strategic planning, international
business and cross-border finance, tax planning and compliance, ERP implementations,
business process optimization and organizational restructuring.
Morten Lauridsen
Honorary Doctorate Recipient
The music of Morten Lauridsen occupies a permanent place in the standard vocal repertoire
of the 21st Century. His eight vocal cycles (Lux Aeterna, Les Chansons des Roses,
Madrigali: Six ‘FireSongs’ on Italian Renaissance Poems, A Winter Come, Cuatro Canciones,
A Backyard Universe, Nocturnes and Mid-Winter Songs on Poems by Robert Graves), instrumental
works, art songs and series of motets (including O Magnum Mysterium) are performed
throughout the world and have been recorded on over 200 CDs, including several that
received Grammy nominations. Morten, born in 1943, served as composer-in-residence
of the Los Angeles Master Chorale from 1995-2001 and is currently distinguished professor
of composition at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music.
An award-winning documentary by Michael Stillwater, Shining Night — A Portrait of
Composer Morten Lauridsen, was released in 2012. Morten was named an “American Choral
Master” in 2006 by the National Endowment for the Arts, and in 2007 he was awarded
the National Medal of Arts, the highest artistic award in the United States, by President
George W. Bush in a White House ceremony “for his composition of radiant choral works
combining musical beauty, power and spiritual depth.”

The Cal Lutheran Mace
Academic maces descend from war clubs carried in medieval times by the bodyguards of civil officers. The earliest ceremonial maces, borne by sergeants at arms and royal bodyguards, can be traced to 12th-century England.
An academic mace symbolizes the authority, dignity and autonomy of the university as an institution of learning. Therefore, the mace plays an important ceremonial role at presidential inaugurations and all significant university events.
California Lutheran University’s mace is crafted of light oak, an allusion to the university’s home in Thousand Oaks. The light color symbolizes the youth of the university, since wood darkens as it ages.
The mace is crowned with an oak disk bearing the university seal in the bold school
colors. Just below the seal, the mace head is ringed by six bronze medallions with
the seals of the five Lutheran denominations that founded the college, together with
the seal of the church into which they ultimately merged, the current Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America. The five earlier denominations represented on the mace
are the American Lutheran Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the United Evangelical
Lutheran Church, the Augustana Lutheran Church and the United Lutheran Church in America.
Academic Regalia
On formal university occasions, members of the faculty wear academic dress that originated in the Middle Ages. This dress includes the gown, the hood and the mortarboard (cap). Gowns distinguish holders of the three degrees — doctorate, master’s and bachelor’s. The doctoral gown is faced with velvet and has bell-shaped sleeves, on each of which are three velvet chevrons. The master’s gown has sleeves that reach nearly to the knees and are slit above the elbow. The bachelor’s gown has pointed sleeves and lacks the velvet trimming of the doctoral gown.
The hood indicates by the color of its velvet edging the area of study in which the wearer’s degree was taken, and its silk lining displays the color or colors of the institution that conferred the degree. On most campuses, the most common degrees are in arts, letters or the humanities (white); commerce, accounting and business (drab); education (light blue); engineering (orange); fine arts (brown); law (purple); library science (lemon); music (pink); philosophy (dark blue); physical education (sage green); psychology (gold); science (golden yellow); and theology (scarlet). California Lutheran University’s colors are violet and gold.
The mortarboard tassel for holders of bachelor’s or master’s degrees is usually black. Gold tassels are worn only by holders of doctoral degrees and by heads of institutions. Students wearing a purple and gold tassel have been recognized as making their class gift, and for helping raise money for the Cal Lutheran Annual Fund during their senior year.
Academic dress that differs from this description may indicate a degree from a university abroad or from a domestic university that does not follow the typical pattern.
