Mr. Smith is a seasoned business professional, with a multitude of comprehensive business management acumen that includes expertise within global market expansions, operations, general management, strategy, leadership, and a proven success record in delivering key business results with more than 26 years of qualified corporate experience with General Motors Corp, Monsanto Co. and Amgen biopharmaceutical.

In 2012, Mr. Smith transitioned from the biotech agriculture sector to a global biotech pharmaceutical corporation that discovers, develops, manufactures, and delivers innovative human therapeutics. In his current role, Mr. Smith is responsible for the commercialization of new product launches (small and large molecule), life cycle management and leading multiple out-license programs for strategically selected emerging markets though external pharmaceutical alliances. 

In Mr. Smith’s previous role with Monsanto Co, he lead their West Asia regional business operations, as the subsidiary general manager, which included the commercial organization, day-to-day responsibilities of a financial P/L of $30M, sales and operations, human resources, business development, finance, supply chain and the 150 employees assigned to the West Asia region. Mr. Smith was based in Pune, India. (Expat)

Mr. Smith, who is also retired from the United States Marine Corps, was selected in 2014 to lead Amgen’s Veteran hiring and outreach efforts, as the Corporate Deputy Chairman for the diversity and inclusion resource group Amgen Veterans Employee Network (AVEN). 

As an accomplished business veteran, Mr. Smith has been involved in many functional areas through his professional career and continues to provide exceptional leadership and measurable results by utilizing his global business expertise.

Mr. Smith also serves, as an adjunct faculty member at both California Lutheran University and The University of La Verne.

Alliance Management-Partnership Lead, within Amgen’s Global Operations department with direct management of multiple out licensed programs that include strategically selected expansion markets for both commercialization and clinical trial programs through selected alliances. Area of contractual expertise: Out-license, collaborations, development, commercial supply and clinical supply. Current therapeutic area programs include Oncology, Nephrology, and Anti-Inflammatory.
