About

Hey, and welcome to Pearson Library!

A little bit about me:

I grew up in a Mexican-American household with a first-generation American mother and a father whose family has strong roots in Ventura County. I couldn’t (and still can’t) go anywhere without running into family, or someone who knows a tia, tio, or cousin. Although I’m originally from Texas, I consider Ventura County my home. I’m married, a mother to a human child and a furbaby who I’m convinced doesn’t know she’s a dog.

I always knew I wanted to pursue higher education but didn’t know what that journey would look like. Ultimately, it began at Moorpark College, and continued at Cal Lutheran as a transfer student and commuter. I graduated in 2013 with my Bachelors in History and took a few years off before pursuing my Masters in Library and Information Science. It was during my education pause where I developed a passion for helping users find needed information and found my way back to Cal Lutheran working at Pearson Library.

Since my return to Cal Lutheran I’ve worked in circulation, managed the interlibrary loan service, oversaw the course reserves service, and my current role is Head of Collection Management Services. As a librarian and Head of Collection Management Services I aim to create a physical collection that meets the research needs of the Cal Lutheran community, create a space of belonging, and help everyone find the resources they need to succeed.

Although my primary role includes development and management of the library collection, I enjoy dabbling in various aspects of academic librarianship including:

  • Open Access & Open Education Resources

  • Information Seeking Behavior (ISB)

  • Copyright & Fair Use

  • Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility

When the cardigan comes off, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Contrary to librarian stereotypes - my nose isn’t stuck in a book. I’ll occasionally pick up a book (or her Kindle Paperwhite) and read fantasy, romance, and more. Although reading isn’t my main pastime, I’m an advocate for public libraries and promote the free services and resources available through local libraries whenever possible. If you don’t have a public library card, Google your local library and sign up for a library card to utilize these resources and services!
