John S. Marshall, Ed.D.

Honorary Alumni

Dr. John Marshall came to CLU in 1990 following a distinguished career as a teacher, school principal, director and assistant superintendant of educational services.

His extensive experience in California public schools provided him the kind of credible, firsthand background so crucial in the preparation and induction of aspiring educators.  After one year as an associate professor in the School of Education, he was appointed as Director of the Educational Administration Program.

During the six years he directed the program, Marshall was one of the principal planners and writers in guiding the transformation to a standards-based program fully accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.  During that time he prepared three successful accreditation documents.

For the past two years, in addition to his teaching, Professor Marshall participated with School of Education colleagues in planning and designing the CLU Doctorate of Education in the Higher Educational Leadership Program that began in the Fall 2002 semester.  Although he officially retired in June, the educator plans to remain involved in the doctoral program and other campus activities.  He teaches a course in the new program and also loves advising candidates with preparation of their dissertations.

Dr. Marshall, a native Californian, earned his doctorate in educational management from the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley.  The parents of four grown children, he and his wife, Judith, also an educator, live in Thousand Oaks.
