Humanitarian Concerns

Adele (Broas’71) Trent was honored with the Humanitarian Service Award for her accomplishments in the arts, education and as an activist for women’s and children’s rights in the legal system.  Adele graduated from CLU with a bachelor’s degree in art and serves as a representative of her graduating class.  She has been an elementary school teacher for Paramount Unified School District since 1985 and was recently accepted to Newport University in Newport Beach, Calif., to pursue a law degree.

Adele’s humanitarian service activities include participation in a local women’s community organization, an American Trail Lawyers of America Student Chapter and Big Sisters of Orange County.  She produces a cable television show featuring problems within the legal system and was recently recognized by Governor Wilson’s Conference for Women, “Call to Action,” as a member of the conference steering committee.  For her service to women and children in society, Adele was honored by the state of California for improving self-esteem in elementary students through her art education in 1994.

“There are many of us out there trying to make a difference through changing public opinion and social reform.  These are the unsung heroes who often are propelled into this service through personal experience and a sense of concern for human welfare, particularly where the victims are women and children.  Cal Lutheran gave me such a tremendous background in so many different areas and the courage to explore the areas where that special knowledge and valuable education can be used.”
