During this chaotic time, my basketball coach, Annie Tarakchian, and I decided we wanted to lend a helping hand to senior citizens in our communities. With all of the potential dangers that seniors could face if they go in public during this time, we wanted to provide them with an easy way to get their necessities from grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, etc. We created flyers with our phone numbers saying that we’d pick up anything they needed and deliver it to them free of charge. After posting the flyers around neighborhoods, we got a call from a couple asking for our help. I met them at their house right across the street from Cal Lutheran and introduced myself from a six-foot distance. They gave me their list and money and I brought back whatever they needed a few hours later. If it wasn’t for the flyers and the phone call, I would have never met this generous and sweet couple. Even though this virus is producing a lot of fear and negativity, it can also make our community stronger and bring some smiles along the way.
