Cal Lutheran Esports is built on three pillars: Careers, Community, and Competition. We're not just fielding teams — we're creating a real-world esports ecosystem where
students train for careers, build lasting community, and compete at a high level,
all in one place.
Careers
Real Industry Experience, Built In
You came to college to build a career — Cal Lutheran Esports helps you build one in gaming and beyond.
Our program runs like a real esports organization, because that's exactly the point. Paid Gaming Center Supervisors double as managers across our esports departments, gaining hands-on leadership experience. Our volunteer program is designed around your interests, with new project opportunities offered every semester so you can build the exact experience you want. Whether you're a paid team lead or a volunteer just getting started, you'll get clearly defined roles, real mentorship, and the creative freedom to make the role your own.
Beyond day-to-day operations, students get access to exclusive LA-area gaming and esports industry events, hear from noteworthy guest speakers from gaming and non-gaming industries alike, and benefit from sponsorships we secure on the program's behalf.
And we're just getting started: we're actively working toward paid playtesting partnerships with game publishers and developers — giving students the opportunity to test unreleased games, share feedback directly with industry professionals, and get paid to do it.

Built By Listening
Community isn't an afterthought at Cal Lutheran Esports — it's core to how we operate.
Our Director of Esports, alongside student leaders and volunteers, hosts events built around what our community actually wants, including:
- Intramural tournaments
- Open play sessions
- Social gaming nights
- Industry guest speaker events
- Tournaments for local high schools and colleges
We're able to sustainably host these events thanks to our home base: the largest collegiate gaming center in California.
We decide what to host by asking. Students, staff, and community members shape our programming through surveys, our Discord ecosystem, town halls, and open forums — so the events we run genuinely reflect what our community wants to see.

Competition
Compete at Every Level
The games we compete in aren't chosen from the top down — they're selected by our students through surveys, balanced against program funding.
For every game we support, we run open tryouts across three team types:
- Varsity
- Academy
- Women's
Together, these teams make up a division — and every division is fully supported with its own Discord server, a division manager, up to three team managers, an assistant coach, and a sports psychologist. And our Discord servers aren't just for out teams — anyone can join to talk, play games with other students, share clips, and participate in online events.
It's the structure and support of a real athletics program, built specifically for esports.
