My name is Kathleen Denny, and I am a student in the Fifty and Better program. What keeps me coming back to FAB are the most interesting, fascinating courses, the very personable teachers, and my wonderful classmates. Even though we are on Zoom, it’s great to see their names and know they are watching the same class with me! FAB is so important to me because it absolutely saved me during the lockdown. You cannot imagine – Fab was the one connection I had with the outside world. It was so important to have conversation with my teachers and classmates. It has remained important to this day, especially having topical lectures such as the “Crisis in Ukraine” lecture with Dr. Herb Gooch. I keep coming back for the learning and exposure to new topics. My favorite FAB memory started before FAB did. Before COVID, I went to the NY Historical Society, and there was a great exhibit there on the Vietnam War – it was so informative and thorough! There were pictures, films, and artifacts – it was wonderful. Come to find out that one of the people that put the exhibit together was Dr. David Parsons, a FAB teacher! It was a great connection to the FAB program before I was even a part of FAB. I found out during one of his classes during COVID! The offerings that FAB has are excellent and enjoyable. As wonderful as in-person classes are, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to continue learning and socializing on Zoom.
