“The Queer Excursion was one of the most important programs that I had the fortune of attending as a student at Cal Lutheran. As a queer Latino myself, this program impacted my success both personally and academically. The experience of seeing and learning about various historical sites in LGBTQ+ History in the Los Angeles area gave me a sense of pride and empowered me to take ownership of my identity. LGBTQ+ history is seldom taught in an academic setting unless the course or content specifically calls for it. Therefore, having the opportunity to learn about queer history by taking a guided walking tour of various sites has granted me an opportunity to grow as an ally to other members of the LGBTQ+ Community and use my voice to uplift and empower others.”
