My name is Ashlyn and I am a current second year majoring in Psychology and minoring in Legal Studies and the University Honors Program. One of my favorite things about Cal Lu is the amount of community building opportunities available to students for little to no cost. This past October I had the opportunity to attend the LGBTQ+ retreat put on by the Center for Cultural Engagement and Inclusion. This program was two days dedicated to the queer community on campus. This program started with a dinner attended by the retreat participants as well as some of our staff and faculty who wanted to make themselves known as resources for students. I know how important it is to see that there are faculty and staff on this campus who want to empower my community and this was beneficial to both myself and some of my friends who attended as well. Another favorite part of this retreat was the speaker that came from Cal State Fullerton and discussed navigating spirituality as members of the LGBTQ+ community and after his time with us I found myself feeling very validated and he also just left us with some good things to continue thinking about. Programs like this are made possible by donations to the Student Life Experiential Learning fund. Myself and the CLU community in general would greatly appreciate your support to this fund so we can continue attending programs and events that help us to find or build our community. Thank you for your time and consideration towards a donation to the Student Life Experiential Learning Fund this Cares Day on April 10th.
