Orvil and Gloria Franzen Organ Recital: Joy-Leilani Garbutt, PhD

The Orvil and Gloria Franzen Organ Recital guest artist will be Joy-Leilani Garbutt, PhD, distinguished organist, musicologist and passionate advocate for gender equity in the music industry. Garbutt co-founded the Boulanger Initiative, a nonprofit organization committed to championing music composed by women through performances, education and commissions.

A recipient of a Fulbright scholarship, Garbutt spent a year in France researching early 20th-century French organ music by female composers, contributing significantly to the understanding and appreciation of artists like Joséphine Boulay, Mel Bonis, Nadia and Lili Boulanger, Jeanne Demessieux, Marie-Véra Maixandeau and Henriette Puig-Roget.

She has studied under acclaimed mentors, and her extensive musical journey includes solo recitals across the U.S. and France, as well as performances with the New England Youth Ensemble in various international venues.
