Harry Starn, Jr., MS, CFA, CFP®, is a senior lecturer in California Lutheran University's School of Management and serves as the Director of the Financial Planning Program. He has been teaching, creating and refining online courses for Cal Lutheran's Financial Planning Program since 2005. In May of 2010, the United States Distance Learning Association presented him with the bronze award for Excellence in Distance Teaching. In September of 2016, he was awarded the School of Management's Advisory Council Award for excellence and outstanding achievement in teaching. He served on the CFP Board's Council on Education (2012-2015), was appointed Chair of that council (2015) and was a co-writer on the 11th Edition of "Practicing Financial Planning for Professionals."
Harry earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Master of Science Degree in Finance from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He also holds industry certifications as a Chartered Financial Analyst from the CFA Institute and the CFP® Certification from the CFP Board of Standards.
Harry has over 20 years of experience in the financial-services industry. He formerly operated his own fee-only financial planning practice, Action Financial Planning, LLC. Prior to starting his own practice in 1996, Harry worked as a registered representative with Financial Network Investment Corporation and later served as the Manager of Special Directors’ Services with Lipper Analytical Services, Inc., a consulting department to the mutual fund industry.
