  • FEC presents a Title IX Faculty Forum, Tues., Feb. 28, 3pm, Ullman 100. The Forum is scheduled for 45 minutes with time for Q&A. It will be structured as a panel discussion. The panel participants include our Title IX investigators as well as Melinda Roper, Jim McHugh and Natasha Baker (CLU legal counsel).   • The Student Life Committee is requesting faculty nominations for students who would make excellent commencement speakers! Please recommend undergraduate students (scheduled to graduate in May 2017) who you think could share their inspiring stories in a 2-minute speech at Commencement.   • Traditional Undergraduate registration appointments for Fall 17 will be from Mar. 27-Apr. 3. Student registration appointments are from 5:00 pm-8:30 pm each weekday evening. The Fall 17 class schedule was made available in WebAdvisor and Student Planning on Friday. Advisor registration approvals for Spring have been cleared.

  • Paloma Vargas (HSI and Biology) and Kirstie Hettinga (Communication) are seekingfirst-generation faculty to participate in a video project that will provide “words of wisdom” to incoming and/or current first-generation students. The goal of the project is to 1. dispel any myths/misconceptions of first-generation college goers, 2. encourage students to talk to more faculty, 3. create an opportunity for students to learn via experiential learning, and 4. allow students to contribute to HSI efforts.   • Festival of Scholars: The abstract submission window for the 2017 Festival of Scholars will run March 1-March 24.   • The Western Regional Conference on Christianity and Literature will be held May 11-13 at Point Loma Nazarene University, with the theme "Crossing Borders/Exploring Boundaries." Diane Glancy and Catherine Kapikian will be the keynote speakers. Please email 250-word abstracts and session proposals by Mar. 1 to Karl Martin atWesternCCL@pointloma.edu.   • The Cal Lutheran Theatre Department is producing the play The Nordic Princess Breaks the Ice, Fri., Mar. 10 and Sat. Mar. 11, 8pm, Preus-Brandt Forum. It is the story of one women living with osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease). Written and acted by Marty McCambridge and directed by Michael McCambridge (Education), Marty takes us through her life long journey with brittle bone disease by telling her story with humor, with song, and with the pain of breaking 58 bones along the way. The message is educational, entertaining, and hopeful as we experience osteogenesis imperfecta. A free will offering will be taken going to the Osteogenesis Foundation.
