New Staff Onboarding

The Human Resources Department facilitates an onboarding program effective August 2022 for all new staff employees that consists of two components: a New Staff Employee Orientation and a Staff Learning Community (LC).

New Staff Employee Orientation

Held the first non-holiday Monday of every month in the Human Resources House Conference Room, the New Staff Employee Orientation introduces incoming colleagues to important information about California Lutheran University.  Topics of discussion include: the University's mission, an overview of important policies, safety procedures, incident reporting, and planning for future professional success.

Expected attendees should receive an Outlook calendar invitation from Human Resources which will include information about supplemental sessions that may be made available to new hires. Regular employees should attend the first Orientation session after or on their first day as a professional at Cal Lutheran.  Faculty, adjuncts, and other employees should consult their supervisors for onboarding information.

Staff Learning Community (LC)

Following an employee's Orientation, the Human Resources Department coordinates a five-session Learning Community (LC) to its new staff employees to continue onboarding and learning within their first six months in their new positions.  Participants will engage with visitors from across the campus's divisions, learn more about professional development opportunities, and connect their role to the larger mission of Cal Lutheran -- all while building close connections to their LC cohort.  Employees will receive LC dates and more information during their Orientation session, and Human Resources will send expected attendees Outlook calendar invitations as well.  All new staff employees are expected to attend the first LC cohort that is available following their New Employee Orientation date.
