eweis@callutheran.edu
Hometown: Bonney Lake, WA
Minor: Business Administration
Involvement on Campus: CLU Choir, PNW Club
Fond Memory at CLU: One of my favorite memories was performing in the Christmas concert last year (2021).
It was probably one of the best concerts I was ever a part of! Talking with friends
and community members after the performance was also a very great experience because
it made me so proud to be a member of the CLU choir. :)
Favorite spot on campus and why: The steps in front of Gumby are a great spot to just sit and think about whatever
you need to. Gumby will never judge you and is a great listener. I love sitting there
and telling Gumby what's weighing on me and talking through my troubles.
Advice for incoming students: 1) Do things that YOU want to do! 2) Stay true to who you are 3) Get involved! 4)
Find people that understand you 5) You only have four years of undergrad and it'll
go by super fast so make the absolute best of it :) 6) Buy a Brita

Advice for incoming students: Make sure you plan your time well and everything will work out fine.

Senior, Psychology
dgallagher@callutheran.edu
Involvement at CLU: CLU PRIDE, Starbucks Barista, transgender advocacy
Fond memories at CLU: Our drag show rehearsal was so much fun. But one thing I cannot forget are the pizzas we had for dinner. Francine ordered two identical pizzas where one side was cheese and one was pepperoni, instead of two-one topping pizzas.
Favorite spot on campus and why? The chapel is my favorite spot, even though I’m not religious at all. The people who work there are some of the most amazing and comforting people to be around. Never have I seen anyone on this campus, or in clergy work, make as much of an effort to make LGBTQIA+ students feel welcome as they have. Plus, the labyrinth is a great place to reset when needed
Advice for incoming students: For many, this will be your first time with independence. Your first year has a lot of new and changing parts to it. Take care of yourself and be open to new change, while keeping moderation in mind. Opening yourself up to new opportunities may actually show you where you’re supposed to be.

Senior, Communication
aabon@callutheran.edu
Minor: Psychology & Theology - Christian Leadership
Involvement at CLU: Team Director for Delight Cal Lutheran, Vice President for Black Student Union, Co-President for Sisters' Circle, Member of the Cal Lutheran Dance Team, Religion Department Assistant
Fond Memories at CLU: Going to Nationals for the Dance Team my junior year. The whole experience was very fun and had the opportunity to really bond with the team. We worked super hard and overall we danced with them at nationals was a huge accomplishment.
Favorite spot on campus and why: The labyrinth - I really enjoy the outdoor space and sitting on the grass area. It is a private space where there aren't a lot of people so journaling or relaxing there is a great place to go to to get away from people and if you ever need a break.
Advice for incoming students: Do not be afraid to ask for help. It is okay to make mistakes... you are still learning from your experiences ! Hold tight to the community you love and trust. Hold tight to who you are. Make memories. Practice gratitude daily / give yourself and others grace. Make healthy boundaries and stick to them. Your college experience is based on what you make of it... join clubs, go to events, do what you love, find new interests, and have fun... it goes by fast! :)

First-Year, English
mckennaanderson@callutheran.edu
Hometown: Simi Valley, CA
Involvement on Campus: I'm a member of the University Honors Program and SSS (Student Support Services).
I haven't joined any clubs yet but intend to once I get started with this semester.
Fond Memory at CLU: I went to an overnight event called inCLUsive, which is a program intended to promote
diversity on campus. I went there before I committed to California Lutheran University
and I got the chance to not only learn a lot about the school but I also got to make
some awesome friends and fun memories in the process. It also gave me a sneak peek
into what the community and campus life looked like at Cal Lutheran. I remember feeling
incredibly welcomed and at home while on campus.
Favorite spot on campus and why: The Enormous Luther "Gumby" is my favorite spot on campus because aside from the
fact that that surrounding area is really pretty, it holds a lot of sentimental value
as it's used as a sort of milestone marker. I just love the sort of symbolism of accomplishment
that it holds and the pride it fosters on campus.
Advice for incoming students: Go to as many of the events as you can. I made so many good connections and got several
amazing opportunities and helpful information by attending a good portion of the events
that were made available to me. This resource, and so many more, are available to
you and you absolutely should take advantage of them.

Senior, Psychology
hwadalia@callutheran.edu
Involvement on Campus: My involvement here at CLU includes working at the Undergraduate Admissions Office, a member of PsiChi which is an International Honor's Society in Psychology and a member of the American Medical Student Association.
Fond Memory at CLU: A fond memory at CLU would be Hall Wars. This takes place freshman year, where all three freshman dorms; Mt.Clef, Pederson and Thompson, compete in activities. My freshman year we did a basketball tournament. It was so much fun meeting new people and being engaged in campus activities.
Favorite spot on campus and why: My favorite spot on campus would be Starbucks. This is a spot where my friends and I would hangout before and after class. We would sit here and do homework or just catch up. There is so much energy revolving around Starbucks, there is always music playing and you see everyone. It really uplifts my mood when I'm there.
Advice for incoming students: My advice for incoming students would be to make at least one friend in every class and participate in campus activities. This is a great way of meeting new people, making connections and overall being comfortable settling in a new environment.

Sophomore, Communication - Journalism
omadera@callutheran.edu
Minor: Film & TV
Involvement on Campus: SSS Member, Her Campus Member, Peer Advisor, LASO Member
Fond Memory at CLU: Participating in New Student Orientation as a Peer Advisor and getting to bond with my fellow leaders and meet the freshmen I will be teaching for the fall semester.
Favorite spot on campus and why: The Student Union because it is always a fun and welcoming environment. I love how every one of any background can come together and enjoy their time doing fun activities. There are also great resources and a wonderful staff to help you with anything you may need.
Advice for incoming students: My advice would be to get involved and just go to every event on campus. College life and the transition may be hard but you are not alone. CLU is a great school if you genuinely care about diversity, inclusivity, and making a pathway for your personal/professional life. If you do not know everything right now, that is okay. There are many resources and people to help you throughout your college journey at CLU.

First-Year, Business Administration - Marketing
jenniferquintero@callutheran.edu
Hometown: Thousand Oaks, CA
Involvement on Campus: I am a part of Student Support Services which has offered me several crucial resources
that have helped my transition from high school to college.
Fond Memory at CLU: The most memorable memory I have at Cal Lu has to be when I attended InCLUsive in
the springtime. It was the first time I got to truly experience and see the campus
from a student’s point of view. I got to meet with faculty and professors which made
college seem a lot less challenging. I also met various people from different cities
and states which made me feel like I was already a part of CLU’s community even before
starting. After I left InCLUsive, I could not see myself attending any other school!
Favorite spot on campus and why: My favorite spot on campus is Kingsmen Park. Events are always being hosted here
so it is a great place to meet new people and have fun. It is also a calming and relaxing
place to be at when there are no events taking place.
Advice for incoming students: The most important piece of advice I would give incoming students is to always ask
questions. I thought the college application process would be super intimidating and
rigorous being a first generation student however, I quickly realized I had resources
that were created to help me. I called the admissions office multiple times throughout
my application process and they always had an answer or directed me to the office
that could help. People are specifically working to help incoming students and want
them to use their resources because that is their purpose! I would have struggled
a lot more if I did not seek help when I needed it the most.
