Dottie (Roman) Sterling
Dottie Roman Sterling of Auburn received the Humanitarian Service Award honoring alumni who contribute to human welfare and social reform.
Sterling, who graduated from CLU in 1978, serves as a mentor coordinator for the Caring About Kids program in Placer County. She has trained more than 300 mentors in this program which works with at-risk youth, specifically those in juvenile halls. The mentor program has now expanded into seven counties, and Sterling’s goal is to expand the Caring About Kids program worldwide.
She speaks twice a month at training sessions, community meetings, service organizations and church groups about mentor procedures and success stories. She is also involved with the Boys & Girls Club after-hours center for high school teens, is an art docent and serves as vice president of Alta Vista PTC.
